FAQs
How many dogs will you walk at one time?
In order to provide the most attentive service that I can, I limit myself to 5 dogs at a time. This way I can comfortably keep an eye on everyone and give each dog the appropriate amount of attention that they require.
Can I specify a time for my dog to be walked?
Yes you can, I will try to accommodate all requests however if I have that slot regularly filled up by another client I will offer the best alternative that I can, and unless it is also a medical visit (ie medication, insulin) I will aim to be there 15 minutes either side of the given time. This allows for traffic, cleaning up muddy pups from previous walks, or anything else that may move my times slightly.
Will my dog be walked off the lead?
Well that is up to you. Some people prefer their dogs walked on the lead, some prefer off. Whatever is more comfortable for you and your dog, for the most part that is what I will follow. However for the first couple hours of walks together, all dogs are kept on the lead in order to develop trust and a relationship where I am comfortable that your dog will respond to recall. If, when your dog comes off the lead they decide to try and make a run for it, unfortunately they will have to remain on the lead indefinitely, for their safety, and an long line will be utilised.
Where will my dog be walked?
I will always walk your dog in your local village (unless for group walks), that way they can get the longest walk possible and I will try to vary the walks slightly, in order for them to remain engaging.
If my dog is nervous, will you still be able to walk them?
Of course, when we decide to go ahead with dog walking all clients sign some paperwork in order to let me know of any behavioural issues. This means I am fully aware of any potential problems and can adapt accordingly, this may mean walking in open fields on the lead so that I can watch out for other dogs, for example.
What happens in an emergency?
When you decide to use one of my services, you provide your contact information as well as the information of your registered vets, both of which are stored on my phone, as well as any information about medication and allergies. In the case of an emergency I will contact you immediately and take your pet to their vets. I am Canine First Aid trained so I can help provide immediate care until we are at the veterinary.
Can I book ad hoc walks?
Yes you can, you may request additional ad hoc walks outside the regular schedule, subject to availability and are the same rates as regular walks. If you wish to cancel an ad hoc walk, a minimum of 12 hours of notice is required; otherwise, you may be charged the full ad hoc walk rate.
What is your cancellation policy?
For regular walks and visits, a late cancellation fee of up to 50% will be charged if you cancel with less than 72 hours' notice. If cancelled with less than 12 hours notice then a late cancellation fee of up to 100% will be applicable. This fee applies due to the difficulty in rescheduling the service on short notice.
For overnight stays, a late cancellation fee of up to 50% of the booking will apply if you cancel with less than 120 hours' (5 days) notice. This fee accounts for the specialised nature of overnight services and the challenge of rebooking on short notice.
Can I book ad hoc Walks/Visits for the weekend or evenings?
Yes you can! I can not always guarantee availability but with lots of notice I can usually accommodate ad hoc services. Weekend and evening walks or house visits incur a 25% extra charge (does not apply to overnight stays). Overnight stays are always offered on weekends but, again, I cannot always guarantee availability.
How much notice do you need for Overnight Stays?
Ideally as long as possible! Normally a minimum of a fortnight however I can sometimes squeeze you in with 10 days notice. However the more notice you can give me, the more likely I will have availability. I tend to book up for longer term (a week or longer) overnights around 3 months in advance so do get in contact if you are looking to book!
How do payments work?
You have the option to either pay cash or by bank transfer, and when we go through introductory paperwork we will decide on either; by service, weekly, or monthly payments. For weekly and monthly payments, I can invoice you via email. Cash payments can only be chosen for ‘by service’, and will be required each day that I walk/visit. By deciding from the get go how payments will work, it means we can both keep track of everything comfortably. Late fees will be incurred if payments are not made within 3 days of receipt of invoice, which is an additional 25% of your bill.
